HIGHLIGHTS OF THIS YEAR’S IKUBI LYA BANAMUNYATI TRADITIONAL CEREMONY OF THE ILA PEOPLE OF NAMWALA DISTRICT

This year’s Ikubi Lya BanaMunyati traditional ceremony of the Ila people of Namwala District was a vibrant celebration of culture and unity. Zambia Red Cross Society (ZRCS) was proud to be part of this significant event, demonstrating its commitment to fostering meaningful partnerships and contributing to better health within the community.

With 33 chiefs from across Zambia in attendance and captivating performances of traditional songs and dances, the ceremony beautifully reflected the rich cultural heritage of the Ila people. ZRCS’ presence, through the provision of vital first aid support and the donation of water, strengthened collaboration with communities. Such contributions underscore our dedication to promoting health, safety, and wellbeing in every corner of Zambia.
As we reflect on this year’s Ikubi Lya BanaMunyati, let us embrace the theme, ‘Securing Our Culture Through Health Security,’ and work together to make it a reality.

Vice President of the Republic of Zambia, Hon. W.K. Mutale-Nalumango, presents a Certificate of Open Defecation Free (ODF) status to Chief Nalubamba of the Ila-speaking people in Namwala District.
