ZRCS BOREHOLE DRILLING PROGRAM ENHANCES ACCESS TO SAFE AND CLEAN WATER IN LUSAKA AND COPPERBELT PROVINCES

Zambia Red Cross Society (ZRCS) is making significant progress in its ongoing borehole drilling program, which aims to improve access to safe and clean water under the Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) initiative. This project, currently being implemented in Lusaka and Copperbelt provinces, is part of the response in line with Cholera, which was declared as a disaster, earlier this year.

In Lusaka, we have successfully drilled four out of the nine planned boreholes. These completed sites include New Kabanana Primary School in Lusaka District, Makeni GRZ Secondary School, Namalombwe Primary School, and Highlands Primary School in Chilanga District. These boreholes will provide clean and safe drinking water, promoting good hygiene practices and reducing the risk of waterborne diseases such as cholera.

We are prioritizing schools, health facilities, and public spaces to ensure reliable access to clean and safe water in these critical areas. This initiative reflects our commitment to protecting lives by promoting good hygiene and improving access to essential resources.

On the Copperbelt, the borehole drilling program is set to begin with sites already identified. We expect to replicate the successes seen in Lusaka, further expanding access to clean and safe water for vulnerable communities.

We are grateful to the Netherlands Red Cross for their generous support, which has been critical to the success of this program. As ZRCS, we remain committed to our vision of building resilient, empowered communities across Zambia, in line with our mission to save and improve the quality of life for vulnerable communities in Zambia.
