ZAMBIA RED CROSS COMMENDED FOR INNOVATIVE GROWTH AND LOCAL RESOURCE MOBILIZATION

Zambia Red Cross Society (ZRCS) President, Mr. Frackson Ngosa, has commended the organization for its remarkable transformation into a resource-ready organization capable of delivering vital humanitarian assistance to vulnerable communities.
Speaking at an Extraordinary National Council meeting in Lusaka, Mr. Ngosa attributed the success to support from various partners such as the Netherlands Red Cross (NLRC), the Italian Red Cross, and the International Committee of Red Cross and Red Crescent (ICRC).
He emphasized the importance of local resource mobilization through ZRCS’s localization program, emphasizing that relying too heavily on external partners is unsustainable. “It’s crucial that we look within and find ways to mobilize resources locally. This ensures we continue to grow as a National Society,” he said.
Speaking at the same event, NLRC Country Representative to Zambia, Jo-Lind Roberts Sene, praised ZRCS for its solid structure and impressive growth, noting that the society’s reputation is strengthening both nationally and internationally. “The institutional strength of ZRCS, with well-established guidelines, policies, and frameworks, has laid a solid foundation for transparency and quality in the organization’s operations,” Sene remarked.
ZRCS and NLRC celebrated their 10th anniversary as a Partnership in 2023. Over the past decade, the two organizations have collaborated on various humanitarian projects that have significantly improved the livelihoods of Zambians. The partnership, which has been fruitful, has now been extended for another five years, in line with NLRC’s international strategy for 2030.
During the meeting, Roberts Sene noted that the next phase of the partnership will focus on strengthening ZRCS’s resource mobilization and expanding its project portfolio. “The renewed collaboration will also prioritize empowering local leadership, ensuring ZRCS can operate independently and sustainably in the long term,” she stated.
While acknowledging ZRCS’s significant strides, Sene emphasized that the progress must be carefully nurtured. She called for unified leadership at all levels, particularly in maintaining clear communication between the headquarters and local branches.
In closing, Roberts Sene expressed her hope that ZRCS leadership would remain committed to the organization’s growth and mission. She urged the National Council to prioritize the society’s interests in their deliberations and decisions, ensuring that ZRCS continues to play a crucial role in Zambia’s humanitarian landscape.
