ZAMBIA RED CROSS SOCIETY RESPONDS TO 2025 MPOX & CHOLERA OUTBREAKS
In responding to government’s clarion call, Zambia Red Cross Society (ZRCS) is amongst the various organizations playing an auxiliary role to government in the fight against mpox and cholera diseases which have broken out in various parts of the country.
Government declared an outbreak of mpox on October 10th as Health facilities confirmed a suspected case involving a Tanzanian national. Concurrently, the Ministry of Health received reports of suspected cholera cases in Nakonde, which were later confirmed.

Community Engagement & Accountability, at the Heart of Mpox & Cholera Response
ZRCS is at the heart of the frontliners, who in collaboration with Ministry of Health, UNICEF and other stakeholders, are conducting door-to-door sensitization sharing mpox and cholera prevention messages.
Early detection is critical: Volunteers are trained to identify suspected cases and ensure they are reported quickly, enabling health personnel to effectively assist communities with early treatment. These efforts not only address the current outbreak but also build long-term health resilience by equipping communities with the knowledge and tools to prevent future outbreaks.

Collaboration for Greater Impact
ZRCS is not working alone. We have partnered with the Ministry of Health, UNICEF, Zambia National Public Health Institute (ZNPHI), and other stakeholders to strengthen the response.
Zambia Red Cross Society’s efforts demonstrate the power of community action. With trusted volunteers, clear communication, and strong partnerships, ZRCS is making a difference in the fight against mpox and cholera—one household at a time.
