ZAMBIA RED CROSS SOCIETY’S COMMITMENT TO WATER, SANITATION, AND HYGIENE: PROMOTING HEALTH AND DIGNITY FOR COMMUNITIES
Water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) are critical to improving the health and well-being of communities. Access to clean water reduces the risk of diseases such as cholera and diarrhea, which often spread through contaminated water sources. The Zambia Red Cross Society (ZRCS) works tirelessly to ensure communities have access to safe drinking water, helping to prevent illness and promote healthy living environments.
In line with its mission, ZRCS is committed to educating communities about good hygiene practices. Handwashing, proper waste disposal, and sanitation facility use are key lessons taught to ensure people maintain clean and safe surroundings. Through these efforts, Zambia Red Cross Society aims to reduce the spread of preventable diseases, especially in vulnerable and underserved areas.
As an auxiliary to the government, ZRCS partners with various stakeholders to construct and rehabilitate water points, such as solarized boreholes, thus providing, access to safe and clean water in schools and the surrounding communities Through its focus on WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) initiatives, ZRCS actively contributes to promoting long-term health, safety, and dignity for all Zambians. This effort aligns with our STRATEGIC GOAL 2: PEOPLE LEAD SAFE, HEALTHY, AND DIGNIFIED LIVES AND HAVE OPPORTUNITIES TO THRIVE, ensuring communities not only survive but flourish with improved access to essential basic needs.
