STRENGTHENING PARTNERSHIPS TO SAFEGUARD ZAMBIA FROM DISASTERS

Zambia Red Cross Society (ZRCS) has had the pleasure of hosting People In Need (PIN) Emanuela Mackova – Global humanitarian Advisor, Rajesh Rai – Head of Programs and Kooma Hanyenzu – DRR – Project Coordinator for a collaborative meeting at headquarters. The discussions focused on enhancing disaster preparedness and integrating risk mapping to better protect vulnerable communities.
This collaboration aims to empower local communities with the knowledge and tools needed to better manage and prepare for disaster risks. Additionally, efforts are underway to support advocacy of translation of early warning messages from English to seven local languages to ensure that critical information reaches everyone.
“By working together, we can help communities prepare more effectively for natural disasters. ZRCS is dedicated to ensuring that early warning systems are accessible and understood by all,” said Dr. Jack Bbabbi, ZRCS Director of Programs.
ZRCS has also set up safe haven for communities that may be affected by floods, & warehouses for non-food items in Southern Province, ensuring that essential supplies are available when needed. With trained National Disaster Response Teams on standby, both ZRCS and PIN remain committed to improving Zambia’s emergency response capabilities and building more resilient communities.
The visit by PIN looked at establishing and operationalizing the Memorandum of Understanding entered into by both Organizations. “We realize that we have a lot of common ground in areas such as Early Action Protocols and Early Warning Systems and as such when we work together, we can bridge gaps and cover more ground,” emphasized Emanuela Mackova – PIN Global humanitarian Advisor.
