Zambia Red Cross Society (ZRCS) attended the 2024 Ikubi Lya BanaMunyati Traditional Ceremony of the Ila people of Namwala District, Southern Province, on the 28th and 29th of September 2024.

ZRCS Southern Province President, Mr. David Mukelabai, accompanied by ZRCS Director of Programs, Dr. Jack Bbabi, paid a courtesy visit to Chief Nalubamba at his palace. During the visit, Dr. Bbabi highlighted ZRCS’s longstanding commitment to the district, particularly in disaster response and health promotion. This year’s ceremony, which centered on the theme “Securing Our Culture Through Health Security”, aligned well with ZRCS’s strategic goals of ensuring that people lead safe, healthy, and dignified lives while having opportunities to thrive.

ZRCS provided first aid support to the attendees and donated 50 cases of water, ensuring the well-being of all involved during the event. Dr. Bbabi reiterated the organization’s dedication to working closely with the Ila people and collaborating on health and hygiene initiatives within the community.

Chief Nalubamba expressed his gratitude for ZRCS’s participation, acknowledging the vital role ZRCS plays in advancing health security and disaster preparedness in Namwala. The chief emphasized that partnerships like these are crucial for the continued development of the Mbeza Royal Establishment, particularly in areas prone to floods and other disasters.

ZRCS’s involvement underscores its commitment to establishing meaningful partnerships with various stakeholders, in line with its strategic focus on building collaborative relationships.

In line with its disaster response strategy, ZRCS has been implementing key projects in Namwala, including mechanized water systems and livestock water troughs to support local communities.
