ZRCS AND MINISTRY OF HEALTH INTENSIFY CHOLERA PREVENTION EFFORTS IN KABWE
The Zambia Red Cross Society (ZRCS), in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, has a door-to-door sensitization campaign in six cholera hotspot areas within Kabwe District, including Bwacha, Makululu, and Kasanda.
This campaign forms part of the broader Cholera Appeal Project aimed at curbing the spread of cholera through education and community engagement.
ZRCS and Ministry of Health volunteers are actively reaching out to households across these targeted areas, providing vital information on cholera prevention and treatment. The campaign addresses common myths, misconceptions, and concerns related to cholera, empowering residents with the knowledge they need to protect themselves and their families.
In addition to door-to-door visits, the initiative is reinforced by local radio programs, which further amplify key messages on cholera prevention. This multi-channel approach ensures that the campaign reaches as many people as possible, particularly in high-risk areas with elevated transmission rates.
By focusing on these six hotspot areas, ZRCS and the Ministry of Health are taking a proactive approach to mitigate the risk of cholera outbreaks. Through risk communication and community engagement, the campaign aims not only to reduce the spread of the disease but also to prevent future outbreaks by instilling long-term behavioral change in communities.
The Zambia Red Cross Society remains committed to working hand-in-hand with local communities and stakeholders to safeguard public health and promote resilience against cholera and other health risks.
