ZRCS WELCOMES CHIEF NALUBAMBA OF NAMWALA FOR STRENGTHENING PARTNERSHIPS IN COMMUNITY RESPONSE INITIATIVES.
This morning, Zambia Red Cross Society (ZRCS) welcomed His Royal Highness Chief Nalubamba of Namwala, Mbeza Royal Establishment, accompanied by Leonard Mukosha-National Coordinator for Community-Led Total Sanitation (CLTS), Charity Zimba-National Coordinator for CLTS, and Tredrick Milambi-Chaplain for the chiefdom.
The visit, is in line with SDG no.17, aimed to strengthen the partnership and collaboration, with ZRCS, as the National Society, has been actively involved in various response activities in Namwala district, which includes the response to the 2024 floods, early in the year.
Chief Nalubamba announced that his Chiefdom has been declared Open Defecation Free (ODF). Over 28,000 people in Namwala, across more than 4,500 households, have constructed sanitation facilities, an achievement worth celebrating.
In his remarks the Chief highlighted that they were integrating the “One Health” concept, into this year’s Ikumbi Lya Bana Munyathi traditional ceremony, to be celebrated in September, whose theme is: “Securing Our Culture Through Health Security,”
In response the Secretary General for Zambia Red Cross Society, Cosmas Sakala responded that he was delighted with the visit and this enforced the ZRCS strategic goal No.1, focusing on Strategic Partnerships. He applauded His Royal Highness for the great and unique initiative taken, to incorporate sanitation and other key areas, into this year’s traditional ceremony. “I wish you could replicate this idea to other places, not just focusing on sanitation but also incorporating aspects of Neo-natal and maternal health.”
